SINGAPORE'S benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) opened 9.95 points or 0.33 per cent lower at 3,042.58 on Wednesday, following a retreat of shares on Wall Street overnight.

But by 9.02am, gainers outpaced losers at 66 to 58, after some 48.6 million shares worth S$47.9 million changed hands.

Most active stocks traded lower in the morning, with Noble Group down 0.94 per cent at 53 cents, OCBC down 0.86 per cent at S$9.20 , and Thai Beverage down 0.73 per cent at 68 cents.

But Mapletree Greater China Commercial Trust was up 1.01 per cent at S$1, likely buoyed by its report of a 12.6 per cent rise in distribution per unit to 1.808 Singapore cents for its second quarter ended Sept 30, 2015.
