SINGAPORE stocks opened flat on Thursday, with the Straits Times Index up by 9.2 points or 0.32 per cent to 2,853.82.

This comes as US stocks were reported to notch a second straight day of gains overnight as climbing oil prices lifted the energy sector, and earnings from Morgan Stanley provided a boost to financials.

In Singapore, about 100.6 million shares worth S$139.5 million in total changed hands as at 9.01am. Gainers outnumbered losers 105 to 29.

The most actively traded counter was Suntec Reit, which opened flat at S$1.745 with about 29.36 million shares changing hands. Other actives included ThaiBev, Noble and Jasper Investments.
