Singapore shares open higher on Tuesday; STI up 0.5%

SINGAPORE stocks opened higher on Tuesday, with the Straits Times Index moving up 0.5 per cent, or 17.84 points to 3,402.82 as at 9.01am.

This came as US stocks finished stronger overnight.

On the Singapore bourse, about 63.2 million shares worth S$98.2 million changed hands.

Gainers outnumbered losers 125 to 22.

The most actively traded counters were QT Vascular, which rose 5 per cent, or 0.1 Singapore cent to 2.1 Singapore cents with four million shares traded; and MarcoPolo Marine which rose 2.38 per cent, or 0.1 Singapore cent to 4.3 Singapore cents with 3.69 million shares traded.

Other active index stocks included CapitaLand which rose 1.7 per cent to S$3.53; and HongKongLand Holdings, which rose 1.17 per cent to US$6.94.
