SINGAPORE shares opened lower on Tuesday, failing to take a lift from the extended Wall Street rally that brought four major US equity benchmarks to fresh records.

At 9.01am, the Straits Times Index was down 16.38 points or 0.5 per cent at 3,095.25. But in the broader market, gainers outpaced losers 93 to 48.

Some 182.2 million shares worth S$98.8 million were traded.
