SHARE prices in the Singapore bourse opened higher with the key Straits Times Index up 12.62 points at 3,292.9.

Some 83 million shares worth S$72 million were done with 78 counters up and 30 down.

Major US stock indices edged up to record closing highs overnight on Wednesday with the Dow Jones and S&P 500 up 0.2 per cent and the Nasdaq Composite adding 0.3 per cent.

This followed the release of the minutes from the US Federal Reserve's September policy meeting which signalled that a December interest rate hike is likely although this would be tempered by concerns about sluggish inflation.
