Singapore stocks begin Wednesday afternoon trading on higher ground; STI at 3,409.05

SINGAPORE shares resumed trading on Wednesday afternoon in positive territory with the Straits Times Index at 3,409.05, up 2.67 points or 0.08 per cent on the day as at 1.01pm.

Against the benchmark's level of 3,418.86 heading into the midday break, however, the index was down marginally by 9.81 points or 0.29 per cent. Gainers beat out losers 300 to 126, or about seven up for every three down, with 1.4 billion shares worth S$1.1 billion traded.

Among the most active stocks, QT Vascular gained 5.9 per cent, or 0.1 Singapore cent, to 1.8 Singapore cents with 65.4 million shares traded, while Midas Holdings rose 2 per cent, or 0.4 Singapore cent, to 19.6 Singapore cents with 54.8 million shares traded.

Active index stocks included DBS Group Holdings, down 0.7 per cent or 18 Singapore cents at S$25.54; and Singapore Telecommunications, up 1.2 per cent or four Singapore cents at S$3.46.
