SINGAPORE share prices opened higher on Wednesday with the Straits Times Index (STI) up 10.74 points to 3,531.82 as at 9.05am, extending a rally on Tuesday and following stronger gains made overnight on Wall Street.

Top gainers in early morning trade included banking stocks, and the Singapore Exchange. Interest in Singapore's bourse operator has surged following market speculation of a Singapore-China stock connection soon.

Some 359 million shares worth S$176.9 million changed hands, with gainers outnumbering losers 133 to 59.
