Taiwan: Stocks rise on overseas gains, bargain hunting at home
[TAIPEI] Taiwan stocks rose on Tuesday following overseas markets but bargain hunting after two sessions of losses also supported gains.
As of 0206 GMT, the main TAIEX index rose 0.1 per cent to 9,562.55, after closing down 0.2 per cent on Monday.
Actively traded display maker AU Optronics was up 2.2 per cent on local news reports that it may become a supplier for Apple Inc smartphones.
Taiwan technology companies usually do not comment on market speculation about possible clients.
The electronics subindex was up 0.1 per cent and the financial subindex was ahead 0.2 per cent.
The Taiwan dollar was down T$0.014 to stand at T$31.116 to the US dollar.
