Taiwan: Stocks stabilise; TSMC leads techs lower

[TAIPEI] Taiwan stocks fell 0.2 per cent on Friday along with other regional bourses, with heavyweights such as TSMC leading tech stocks lower.

About 10 minutes into trade, the main TAIEX index had fallen to 9,333.93 points. It slumped 2.2 per cent to end at 4-1/2-month lows in the previous session.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co Ltd (TSMC), the world's top contract chipmaker, slid 1 per cent to T$139.5, weighing on electronics shares, which were down 0.2 per cent.

Banks rose 0.2 per cent.

The Taiwan dollar was up T$0.163 to stand at T$30.899 to the US dollar.
