Tokyo: Benchmark index slips, US data in focus

[TOKYO] Tokyo's benchmark index edged down by the close Tuesday in a muted session with investors looking ahead to a string of US data later in the day.
The Nikkei 225 index was flat, edging down 0.02 per cent, or 4.72 points, to end at 19,677.85, but the broader Topix index of all first-section shares gained 0.16 per cent, or 2.46 points, to finish at 1,572.67.
