Tokyo: Shares close down on China worries

[TOKYO] Tokyo shares on Tuesday slumped to their lowest close since late September, hit by a strong yen as dealers returned from a public holiday to play catch-up with another China-fuelled regional sell-off.
The Nikkei fell 2.71 per cent, or 479.00 points, to 17,218.96, while the broader Topix index of all first-section shares lost 3.13 per cent, or 45.37 points, to 1,401.95.
