Tokyo: Shares open higher despite slump in US, Europe

[TOKYO] Tokyo shares opened higher on Thursday, despite a slump in Europe and on Wall Street, bouncing back from their lowest close in nearly 15 months the previous day.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange rose 0.31 per cent, or 50.67 points, to 16,466.86 in opening deals, while the broader Topix index of all first-section shares was flat, edging up 0.75 points to 1,339.72.
