Tokyo: Stocks close up 0.49%

[TOKYO] Tokyo stocks rose 0.49 per cent Monday, after official data showed Japan's economy contracted at a slower rate than expected last quarter.
The Nikkei 225 index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange rose 100.81 points to 20,620.26 while the Topix index of all first-section shares added 0.51 per cent, or 8.41 points, to 1,672.87.
