[TOKYO] Tokyo stocks fell 0.90 per cent on Wednesday after a disappointing business confidence survey showed Japanese firms are increasingly pessimistic about a rebound in the world's number three economy.

The Nikkei 225 index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange dropped 172.15 points to finish at 19,034.84, while the broader Topix index of all first-section shares gave up 0.92 per cent, or 14.12 points, to 1,528.99.
