Tokyo: Stocks end lower ahead of earnings, Fed meeting

[TOKYO] Tokyo stocks closed lower on Tuesday as the Japanese earnings season gets under way in earnest this week while traders look ahead to a policy meeting by the US Federal Reserve.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 index slipped 0.10 per cent, or 20.47 points, to end at 19,955.20, while the Topix index of all first-section issues fell 0.28 per cent, or 4.50 points, to 1,617.07.
