Tokyo: Stocks open 1.87% lower, extending global rout
[TOKYO] Tokyo stocks opened sharply lower on Monday, extending a global rout from last week on worries about tumbling oil prices and the slowing Chinese economy and as a stronger yen dented exporters.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange declined 1.87 per cent, or 320.18 points, to 16,826.93 in opening deals, while the broader Topix index of all first-section shares lost 1.87 per cent, or 26.21 points, to 1,376.24.
