Tokyo: Stocks open flat despite rise on Wall Street

[TOKYO] Tokyo stocks opened flat Thursday despite rallies on Wall Street on continued optimism about US economic prospects, as the yen edged up against the US dollar.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 index slipped 0.12 per cent, or 22.57 yen, to 19,415.41 in the first minutes of trade, while the Topix index of all first-section issues was up just 0.07 point at 1,553.76.
