Tokyo: Stocks open higher following record highs on Wall Street

[TOKYO] Tokyo shares opened higher on Friday after a record close on Wall Street following a batch of mostly strong economic data that raised expectations for a looming US jobs report.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 index rose 0.55 per cent, or 109.55 points, to 19,969.58 in early trade, while the Topix index of all first-section shares gained 0.52 per cent, or 8.23 points, to sit at 1,594.37.
