Tokyo: Stocks open higher, tracking Wall Street

[TOKYO] Tokyo shares opened higher on Tuesday, tracking gains on Wall Street, where strength in petroleum companies due to higher oil prices and a jump in Apple shares boosted indexes.

Tokyo's benchmark Nikkei 225 index rose 0.45 per cent, or 76.22 points, to 16,936.31 in the first minutes of trade, while the broader Topix index of all first-section issues gained 0.24 per cent, or 3.29 points, to 1,353.90.
