[TOKYO] Tokyo shares opened lower on Wednesday after two days of gains, weighed down by lower oil prices and weak US consumer confidence data.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 index dropped 0.28 per cent, or 48.59 points, to 17,316.66 in the first few minutes of trading while the Topix index of all first-section issues was down 0.15 per cent or 2.12 points, to 1,375.20.
