[TOKYO] Tokyo stocks opened lower on Friday, extending a sell-off in global financial markets as rattled investors sought safety due to signs of a dramatic slowdown in China.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange dropped 1.15 per cent, or 205.11 points, to 17,562.23 in opening deals, while the broader Topix index of all first-section shares was down 1.04 per cent, or 15.09 points, at 1,442.85.
