Tokyo: Stocks open lower, SoftBank down

[TOKYO] Tokyo stocks opened lower on Tuesday following falls in New York, while SoftBank dropped sharply following reports that talks over a planned telecoms mega-merger had been called off.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 index fell 0.53 per cent, or 117.40 points, to 21,894.27 in early trade while the broader Topix index was down 0.43 per cent, or 7.66 points, at 1,763.18.
