Tokyo: Stocks rally in opening trade

[TOKYO] Tokyo stocks rallied at the start of trade on Wednesday following sharp gains on Wall Street as market sentiment got a boost from higher oil prices.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange rose 1.34 per cent, or 213.92 points, to 16,142.71 in opening deals, while the broader Topix index of all first-section shares was up 1.28 per cent, or 16.68 points, at 1,316.03.
