Tokyo: Stocks rise at start despite Wall Street drop

[TOKYO] Tokyo stocks opened modestly higher on Monday as the market was lifted by bargain-hunting despite a negative lead from Wall Street.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange rose 0.30 per cent, or 49.38 points, to 16,461.59 minutes after the opening bell, while the broader Topix index of all first-section shares ticked up 0.09 per cent, or 1.14 points, to 1,321.33.
