[TOKYO] Tokyo stocks surged more than four per cent in early trade Monday, tracking a sharp rally on overseas markets as investors shrugged off a fourth-quarter contraction in Japan's economy.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange soared 4.51 per cent, or 674.44 points, to 15,627.05 at the start, while the Topix index of all first-section shares jumped 5.45 per cent, 65.23 points, to 1,261.51.
