US: Stocks open higher, back in record territory

[NEW YORK] US stocks opened back in record territory on Thursday after Wednesday's pause, spurred by Berkshire Hathaway's US$4.7 billion takeover of Duracell battery and strong results from Walmart.

Five minutes into trade, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 40.78 points (0.23 per cent) to 17,652.98.

The broad-market S&P 500 added 3.98 (0.20 per cent) to 2,042.23, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite added 11.06 (0.24 per cent) at 4,686.19.
