US: Wall St adds to gains after Nikkei surge

[NEW YORK] Wall Street stocks opened higher Wednesday as US investors took their cue from the global rally sparked by the 7.7 per cent gain in Japan's Nikkei index.
Minutes into trade, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 142.28 points (0.86 per cent) at 16,634.96.
The broad-based S&P 500 jumped 15.34 (0.78 per cent) to 1,984.75, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index rose 45.60 (0.95 per cent) to 4,857.53.
