Asian firms tap public cloud more for vital systems
DRIVEN by the need for greater cost and time efficiency, financial institutions and large enterprises in Asia are starting to tap the public cloud for mission-critical systems, says Michael Kiss, senior consultant with Verizon Enterprise Solutions.
Such systems, which include enterprise resource planning (ERP) and customer relationship management (CRM) systems, are critical to an organisation as any failure or interruption can significantly impact business operations.
Verizon is already hosting mission-critical systems on the cloud for financial organisations. For instance, it helped a bank move one of its ERP systems to the public cloud, cutting down the cost by half and reducing the time taken for a technology refresh from an estimated 14 months to a mere three months. Although the bank is headquartered in the United States, the decision to leverage the public cloud for the globally used system was taken in Asia. The implementation was carried out in Singapore and Hong Kong.
