TECHNOLOGY is undergoing a major transition because of social media, mobile computing, cloud services, and Big Data analytics, a transition which research agency IDC calls the "Third Platform", following mainframes (first platform) and client/server computing (second platform).
According to IDC, the third platform is built on mobile devices, cloud services, social technologies, and Big Data and will push innovation and growth.
