They are a new wave of startups that are building compact, themed versions of the world's largest social networks and libraries - many of which are overflowing with content today. Such curated platforms seek to help users sift through the clutter to surface the noteworthy.

The Marque, a personal business network that has set its sights on Singapore as one of its four key markets, wants to be the "LinkedIn for the world's most successful people".
