SINGAPORE has identified four frontier technology focus areas to invest and build capabilities in that will develop a strong infocomm media foundation, according to Yaacob Ibrahim, Minister for Communications and Information. Speaking at the opening of the Infocomm Media Business Exchange (IMBX) opening ceremony on Monday, Dr Yaacob said the four areas were artificial intelligence (AI) and data science, cybersecurity, immersive media and Internet of Things (IoT) along with future communications infrastructure.

IMBX is held in conjunction with CommunicAsia2017, EnterpriseIT2017 and BroadcastAsia2017. It is Asia's largest gathering of companies and experts from the technology and digital entertainment industries.

The three exhibitions, spanning 65,000 square metres across Marina Bay Sands and Suntec Singapore, host 1,800 exhibitors from 62 countries and regions. Around 36 international group pavilions are part of the show, including seven new pavilions from the EU Business Avenues in South-east Asia, Taiwan, Russia and two from China and Korea, respectively.
