LAZADA, an e-commerce company, is opening in Singapore in the second quarter of this year, getting a headstart here over Western online retailers such as Amazon.com. The e-commerce player is parent company Rocket Internet's attempt to dominate the online buying scene in South-east Asia.
Rocket Internet is a German technology incubator that has made its name replicating successful dotcoms in Europe and in emerging markets. Most of its large portfolio of about 75 companies consists of e-commerce ventures such as Zalando in Germany and Lamoda.ru in Russia.
