Pure Storage banks on strong future for flash

MOUNTAIN View, California-based Pure Storage is on a mission to drive the widespread adoption of flash storage in the enterprise. And it is doing this by getting the cost down while prolonging usage to seven to 10 years, instead of the usual four-year storage refresh cycle.

Flash, a type of non-volatile memory, is faster, quieter and requires less power and space compared to traditional mechanical disk drives. However, usage in the enterprise has been limited to a small number of applications that require high performance, due mainly to its high cost.
