IMAGINE a world in which weather prediction could be as simple as taking a close glimpse at Earth's surface despite increasingly freakish weather. Recent developments in the aerospace industry have made such a future more possible than ever.

Satellite-powered data company Spire has just unveiled plans to launch a network of new shoebox-sized nanosatellites into space. The devices are projected to reduce the estimated US$5.7 trillion annual impact of weather on the US economy substantially, and vastly improve forecasting.
