THE communications mindshare in enterprises is dominated by mobility and Bring-Your-Own-Device (BYOD) strategies in which employees bring their own devices, particularly smartphones, to work. Interestingly, despite this, a good Unified Communications (UC) strategy still revolves around the humble desktop phone. Global studies have shown that the desktop phone plays a critical role as 70 per cent of employees still spend at least 4-5 days a week working from a desk using "traditional" tools to communicate.

Jan Zuurbier, head of global sales at Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise, notes that this is testament to the large role "traditional tools" such as desktop phones still play in enterprise communications today. "With rapid advancements in technology, users now have with a wide variety of choices in terms of communication medium, each offering its own unique advantages."

Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise provides advanced communications and networking solutions to companies worldwide. The solutions range from data centre switching solutions, business telephony and cloud communications to UC solutions, the official notes. "Currently, we work with 2,200 partners in more than 130 countries to deliver innovations that help more than 500,000 customers increase customer satisfaction, enhance employee productivity and improve operational efficiency."
