UC and the humble, enhanced deskphone

THE communications mindshare in enterprises is dominated by mobility and Bring-Your-Own-Device (BYOD) strategies in which employees bring their own devices, particularly smartphones, to work. Interestingly, despite this, a good Unified Communications (UC) strategy still revolves around the humble desktop phone. Global studies have shown that the desktop phone plays a critical role as 70 per cent of employees still spend at least 4-5 days a week working from a desk using "traditional" tools to communicate.

Jan Zuurbier, head of global sales at Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise, notes that this is testament to the large role "traditional tools" such as desktop phones still play in enterprise communications today.
