China set to overtake US as world's biggest economy

CHINA is poised to overtake the United States as the world's biggest economy, while India has vaulted into third place, ahead of Japan, data using calculations that take purchasing power parity into account show.
The International Comparison Program (ICP), hosted by The World Bank, said in a report released in Washington yesterday that in 2011 China's economy was 87 per cent the size of the US, assessed according to purchasing power parity (PPP).
