More spectrum to be freed up for broadband-type services
New rules framed after conclusion of public consultation
[SINGAPORE]The government will soon introduce regulation for the use of radio spectrum in the TV White Space (TVWS) - that is, the unused spectrum within TV broadcast bands - in order to maximise the use of spectrum.
Singapore will become one of the first countries in the world to implement such a framework for TVWS when the regulations come into effect in November.
These bands can be used for alternative wireless broadband communications similar to Wi-Fi capabilities but at a lower price, lower cost and longer range.
