CONSUMER confidence fell sharply in August from July's record high, correcting from a spike in positive sentiment following the Great Singapore Sale, according to a new private-sector measure of consumption trends in Singapore.

The ANZ-Roy Morgan Singapore Consumer Confidence Index - launched on Friday morning - dived 16.9 points to 119 in August. Despite the sharp decline, though, the latest reading is broadly in line with its year-to-date average.
