Latter files police report, says no truth in 'scam e-mail' on bill discount
[SINGAPORE] For just S$1, local premium lifestyle membership club RivaLife is offering a S$35 discount on your next utilities bill.
The offer, sent out via e-mail under the pseudonym "SP Services Offer", invites recipients to click on a red "GET MY OFFER" button. Clicking on it links them to RivaLife's Web domain in a separate window.
Once there, they are prompted to enter their e-mail address and credit card information in order to enjoy the stipulated discount on their next SP Services bill.
Then stated at the bottom of the page in fine print are the "Terms of Service", informing users that RivaLife will automatically start to charge them a S$79.90 membership subscription 48 hours after they've provided their payment information. And that, by entering those details, they are, in effect, agreeing to the char…
