¥ slide: No big dent on car prices

The COE premium still forms the bulk of car prices, and cars made outside Japan are often traded in US$, say dealers

IT WILL be difficult for buyers of Japanese-made models here to determine the exact reduction in car prices - if any - as a result of the falling yen, because of fluctuating COE (certificate of entitlement) premiums.

But more likely, dealers will use the forex savings to strengthen their COE bids.
