AN aviation task force has proposed that airlines should implement existing flight-tracking systems on their aircraft within the next year as the first step towards improving tracking capabilities, though the deadline is expected to be too tight for some carriers.

The cross-industry aircraft tracking task force (ATTF), headed by the International Air Transport Association (Iata), this week submitted its report to UN aviation body International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) with recommendations for airlines, air navigation service providers (ANSPs) as well as states. The task force was convened after the disappearance of Beijing-bound Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, which still remains missing despite nine months of intensive search efforts.
