THE Kra canal project in Thailand could pose a serious threat to Singapore's port if it becomes viable but that's "a big if", a senior transport official from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) said on Thursday.
Olaf Merk, ports and shipping administrator at the OECD's International Transport Forum, added that a potential Arctic shipping route was "not really a problem" for Singapore, but said that the Republic's port could still step up its game in areas such as environmental sustainability.
