THIS year the International Maritime Organization (IMO) used the annual Day of the Seafarer, marked globally on June 25, to encourage young people to consider a career at sea. IMO says seafaring offers unique opportunities to navigate the seas of the globe and encounter the wonders of the ocean.
It offers the opportunity to experience a world of real adventure on the seas and oceans and to interact with people from all over the world.
Yes it does, up to a point, though those words would bring wry smiles to the faces of most who have actually been at sea. The reality is rather more gritty.
