Changi Airport's passenger traffic up 1.9% in Oct on strong South Asia growth
PASSENGER traffic at Changi Airport increased 1.9 per cent year-on-year in October to 4.49 million passengers, with robust passenger traffic seen to and from South Asia.
Meanwhile, Thailand traffic bucked the trend after 11 months of decline to edge up one per cent, while passenger movements between Singapore and China grew five per cent, said airport operator Changi Airport Group (CAG).
"Passenger traffic to and from South Asia was particularly strong during the month, rising 14 per cent on year, with India traffic increasing 17 per cent," said CAG.
However, aircraft landings and takeoffs fell 3.7 per cent during the month to 28,380. Meanwhile, airfreight movements rose 2.1 per cent to 159,700 tonnes of cargo.
For the 10 months spanning January to October, 44.58 million passengers passed through Changi, up one per cent year on year. Cargo shipments inched up 0.5 per cent to 1.53 million tonnes, while aircraft movements were flat at 283,650 for the same period.
