Derailment on Amtrak kills five, shuts down north-east US service

AT least five people were killed and dozens more were injured when an Amtrak train carrying 243 people derailed on Tuesday, shutting down service in the north-east region, the authorities said.
The train was headed from Washington to New York when it derailed around 9.30 pm Eastern time, officials said during a news conference late on Tuesday. Sixty-five people, including six in critical condition, were taken to hospitals, Philadelphia's mayor, Michael Nutter, said.
