[TOKYO] ANA Holdings Inc carried more passengers on overseas routes than Japan Airlines Co for the first time, flying 8.2 million passengers in the year ended March compared with 8.1 million for its rival.

ANA, which started international flights three decades ago, benefited from new slots at Tokyo's Haneda airport, and a surge of visitors to the country. Japan Airlines cut overseas routes after filing for bankruptcy in January 2010 and emerged from insolvency a year later.
