Looking after seafarers' well-being

A Singapore conference on Wellness at Sea aims to help officers identify people on board who need help and provide support for them

ON reading that there will be a conference on Wellness at Sea in Singapore on Jan 17, I am afraid I had to look up the word "wellness". Apparently wellness is generally used to mean a healthy balance of the mind, body and spirit that results in an overall feeling of well-being, according to the entry in Wikipedia. Other definitions I found were very similar.

The organisers have sent out a press release publicising the event, and it would appear to be a "must-attend" thing for owners with a genuine concern for their crews' welfare.

The way officers respond in the wake of a crisis could save crew lives - this will be the message from a trauma expert when he addresses the conference next month.
