There are grounds for cautious optimism as shipping enters the new year, but the markets remain challenging
AS 2016 drew to a close, two press releases arrived on my desk that gave some seasonal cheer. After a year that has seen terrible markets across almost the whole shipping sector, and the failure of a huge liner shipping company, they provided welcome reading.
International accountant and shipping adviser Moore Stephens ended the year by telling us that shipping confidence improved for the third successive quarter in the three months to end-November 2016.
