Passenger traffic at Changi Airport up 5.7% in 1H 2017
IN the first half of this year, Changi Airport handled 5.7 per cent more passengers year-on-year at 30.4 million, boosted by growth to and from South-east Asia, North-east Asia and South Asia.
"India was the fastest growing among Changi's top 10 country markets for this period, with more than two million passengers travelling between the two countries," said airport operator Changi Airport Group (CAG). "Aircraft movements were 3 per cent higher at 183,230 landings and takeoffs, while 1.02 million tonnes of airfreight throughput was shipped through Changi from January to June, rising 6.8 per cent year-on-year."
For the month of June alone, Changi handled 5.21 million passengers, up 7.7 per cent year-on-year, with broad-based growth across all regions. Aircraft movements rose 5.4 per cent to 30,920 landings and takeoffs, while cargo shipments grew 5.5 per cent to reach 172,040 tonnes.
CAG said growth from India hit 25 per cent for June, while Vietnam (12 per cent) and China (11 per cent) also saw double-digit growth. Bangkok was Changi's busiest route for the month, followed closely by Kuala Lumpur.
