Singapore's LTA launches new taxi location app
SINGAPORE'S Land Transport Authority (LTA) on Wednesday introduced Taxi-Taxi@SG, a new taxi location app that allows commuters who wish to hail a taxi on the street to see if there are available taxis nearby.
"With this information, commuters can better decide whether to continue waiting for a taxi on the street, walk to a location with more available taxis, book a taxi instead, or make alternative transport arrangements," said LTA.
Unlike third-party taxi booking apps - such as UberTAXI, GrabTaxi, Easy Taxi and Hailo - which only show the locations of taxis which have signed up with them, LTA's new app shows the locations of all available taxis from the 28,000 taxis registered in Singapore.
Taxi-Taxi@SG also enables street-hail commuters to broadcast their current locations, letting taxi drivers know where there is a high demand for taxis.
The app is available for download on Apple's App Store and Google's Play Store from Wednesday.
